He sat in his first-floor office in a mall at the heart of the city, surrounded by the rhythm of an ordinary workday. As a member of the Senior Management Team, he was absorbed in his duties when a message notification suddenly broke the silence. He picked up his iPhone. It was from his son, with his Grade X marksheet attached. The moment he opened it, the numbers on the screen blurred, and his eyes filled with tears.
The sight carried him back 43 years, to a poor 16-year-old boy from a remote village. Like many children his age, he had no clear path ahead and no space in his life for beautiful dreams. In those days, even food, clothing, and shelter were battles to be fought; dreams felt like a luxury meant for others. While most children walked through school with light hearts, his days were weighed down by hardship, struggle, and sorrow. He was in Grade X, living with a distant relative because there was no one else to stand beside him. A violent storm had torn through his family, leaving him alone in an ocean of grief. He grew up like a lonely tree in the desert, standing because he had no choice.
With only three months left before the final exams, fear pressed heavily on his young heart. Once the exams ended, he would have to leave his relative’s house and face life on his own. The world ahead looked dark, silent, and unforgiving. On one side stood the burden of studying well and scoring good marks; on the other waited the terrifying question of how he would survive. Time showed him no mercy. The days slipped away. He wrote his exams and left the village.
He went to Chennai and worked for three long months, carrying both exhaustion and uncertainty until the exam results were announced. When the results finally came, he had passed. That did not surprise him; he had always been a bright student. But life was holding back a greater surprise—one that would reveal itself only a little later.
He went to the college where he had applied for a technical diploma course, hoping to find his name on the admission list. The list stretched on and on, and his anxious eyes moved from one name to the next. His heart tightened. Still, his name was nowhere to be found. He searched again, refusing to give up. The list was almost over. Hope was slipping away. Then, at the very end, he saw it—his name, the last name on the list. Admission was based on Grade X marks. He had scored 383 out of 500, and five students had the same score. He was one of them. If he had scored even one mark less, the door would have closed forever. That one mark did not merely give him admission; it pulled him away from a life of helpless labor, poverty, and forgotten dreams.
Had that one mark been missing, the rest of his life might have disappeared into deeper poverty and quiet tragedy. But that single mark turned the course of his life forever. For him, it was not luck. It was not coincidence. It was a miracle.
Nothing is insignificant—not even one mark. Sometimes, the smallest mark on a page can carry the weight of an entire lifetime. In that one mark, destiny turned, hope rose again, and a broken boy’s future was lifted from the edge of darkness into the loving hands of HIM who plans everything perfectly for His children.
