While browsing the Internet, I came across a blessed resource: In Touch Ministries, led by Dr. Charles Stanley. It offers many meaningful messages and spiritual materials that can encourage the heart and strengthen faith.
There I saw a remarkable painting that deeply touched me. Sometimes a picture can speak to the soul more clearly than words, revealing a truth that the heart understands even when the mind struggles to explain it.
The lion, often called the king of the forest, is a majestic and fearless creature. Its roar can be heard from as far as 8 km away, causing other animals to tremble and even stirring clouds of dust. With powerful jaws and needle-sharp claws, it can bring down its prey instantly. A lion can run at speeds of up to 81 km/h, leap 10.8 meters in length and 3.7 meters in height and overpower even a wild buffalo. It can kill and drag prey weighing up to 250 kg—a quarter of a ton.
Even the sound of a lion’s roar can send shivers down my spine. I would immediately seek shelter, overcome by fear and trembling. A few years ago, when I visited Al Ain Zoo, an old lion suddenly rushed toward me from behind the bars. Though it could not reach me, I was so frightened that I nearly fainted and ran away as fast as I could.
Yet Daniel stood in the lions’ den as though he were surrounded not by danger, but by peace. Were those fierce lions like harmless cats before him? Were they living beasts, or had their strength been silenced by the hand of God? The king had thrown Daniel into the den as punishment, yet the hungry lions did not touch him, come near him, or pay him any attention. Daniel remained calm and unafraid. What gave him such peace?
Daniel’s eyes were fixed on God, and because of that, fear had no place in his heart. He knew the God he served, and his faith opened the way for a miracle. Perhaps the lions’ eyes were blinded, their sense of smell restrained, or their mouths shut by divine power. Perhaps Daniel became hidden from them by the presence of the Lord. I do not know exactly what happened, but I know this: Daniel stood unharmed, resting in God’s protection as peacefully as one standing by the seashore, feeling the breeze and listening to the waves.
Our God still works in supernatural ways that we cannot fully explain or understand. He moves according to His wisdom, power, and perfect love. Our part is to trust Him, believe in His mighty hand, and rest in His care. Whatever problem stands before us, and however great it may seem, let us choose faith over fear and place our confidence in the God who is able to deliver.
He does great things beyond our understanding. (Job 37:5)
